Non-School Activities and Other Interests

Piano

I have played piano and taken music lessons since 2nd grade and have completed many of my major exams up to the ABRSM 6 exam. Furthermore I tutor young piano students at my local music school, Yamaha Music School, helping them catch up on lessons and improve their skills outside of their normal classes.

Boy Scouts (6th grade)

I am a proud Boy Scout from Troop 888 in Cerritos, CA. I have been a dedicated Boy Scout since 2012 and I have worked to earn the rank of Eagle Scout by helping to repaint and refurbish the rooms and halls of a church house in Cerritos, CA. Currently, I hold the position of Troop Guide, where I help guide younger Scouts and help them learn the proper skills for becoming better people, and to learn survival, first aid, and several other skills.

JC Culture foundation (11th Grade)

I am a member of a local Chinese culture foundation that aims to spread awareness of Chinese culture through the traditional dances of Lion Dance and Dragon Dance. I primarily take part in the lion dance, though I occasionally do the dragon dance.

Young Legislators (11th Grade)

Local Program run by Assm. Cristina Garcia of the 58th District allowing local high school students to gain insights into our state and local legislative and governmental processes.

Outside Interests/Hobbies

History

History has long been one of my passions since I was a child. I grew up watching extensive documentaries on the World Wars and the history of my other interests of Aviation and Automobiles. My passion for this subject has influenced my future career interests and my current academic and extracurricular activities. Many of them, through one way or another connect me to history. It has taught me how to analyse events, data, and how to think critically when reading through texts and sifting through data and other evidence.

Aviation

Since childhood I have always been fascinated with flight and at first wanted to make a career out of becoming a pilot, however my eyesight disqualifies me. Nonetheless, the subject and surrounding industry continues to be of extreme interest to me.

Automobiles

Like many children, I had a fascination with machines. This led me to my interests in aviation and in addition to that, cars and automobiles. Overall, I consider myself somewhat of a car enthusiast, enjoying the act of driving and wishing to improve my skills in such, to the point that I even learned how to drive a manual transmission car.

Music

I have always been somewhat passionate about music. I began taking piano lessons in 2nd grade, and it has been a passion that has stuck by my side over the years, continuing as I joined elementary school band as a flute player, and in middle and high school as a percussionist.
